VILLA ADILOS
Architecture, Interior Design: Micromega
Design Team: Alexandros Zomas, Mara Papavasileiou, FANIS ROUSSOS
GREEK SUMMER IS ALL ABOUT LIGHT.
YET, WE ALL SEEK A SHELTER IN THE SHADOW.
THE HOUSE IS DESIGNED AS A SHELTER
FROM THE WIND AND THE HARSH SUNLIGHT,
CARVED IN THE EARTH, PROVIDING A SAFEPLACE
TO ADMIRE THE LANDSCAPE AND
MEDITATE ON THE RAW BEAUTY OF GREEK SUMMER
WHEN LETO WAS LOOKING FOR A SHELTER FROM
HERA TO GIVE BIRTH TO APOLLONAS AND ARTEMIS,
ZEUS ASKED HIS BROTHER POSEIDON HIS MOVABLE ISLAND .
POSEIDON OFFERED TO IMMOBILISE HIS MOBILE ROCH
IN THE MIDDLE OF THE AEGEAN
SO FROM HIDDEN/ ADILOS IT BECAME APPARENT AND TOOK
THE NAME DILOS
THE ARCHITECTURAL LANGUAGE IS STRONG
STILL IT BLENDS IN THE LANDSCAPE.
ADILOS : HIDDEN
THE PRECIOUS ISLAND OF POSEIDON THAT COULD MOVE.
NO ONE KNEW WHERE IT WAS
THE EXTERIOR SPACES ARE SHELTERED WITHIN
THE SHELL OF THE BUILDING,
SO THAT NO PERGOLAS OR EXTRA STRUCTURES
ARE NEEDED TO PROTECT AGAINST THE SUN
